Week Six: Devising Planning

For this lesson we looked into more detail about immigration and the outcomes of a family being and immigrant. We started to think about characters and what their roles could be like according to their character. Next lesson we will discuss the storyline and characters. For our next lessons we need to fully pick out or acting and start on our acting.

Week Three: Devising

At the start of this week we went over only our last scene. We cleaned and fixed our last scene by adding slow motion to the stab then a freeze frame. After our freeze frame we went straight into the last part of the news reporters part.

After spending one lesson on clearing our last part we went into polishing the rest of our scenes. We had a few issues with our scene with the police catches the Muslim boy taking the drugs to the buyer. The two police characters weren't doing their accents properly.

We all tried to give in new ideas. Our play a bit too long and we was expected to do around 3-5 minutes. However, we had around 6-7 minutes, so we had to cut some parts or speed it up a little. We speeded up the climax which was the part when the Muslim boy is getting interrogated by the 3 black boys for throwing away the drugs into the river.

On Thursday was our performance. We didn't have the time to go through our performance. I believe that our performance went really well and we did well. some feedback I got about myself is that they really enjoyed the fact that I had two roles and that my news reporters character was really effective. I was also told that I needed to make my other character a bit more exaggerated.

our next devising is going to be in a group of 6 and we will search about another issue in the UK.

Week Two: Devising

For this week we have been intensively doing some rehearsals. I believe that a lot of us were not putting in 100% effort and commitment. I also believe that myself has not been concentrated a lot in the lessons because I was drifting away and daydreaming a lot. On Thursdays lessons we realised that we only have a week left so we all tried in with putting in our commitment. We had to sort our scenes our properly. My character for this performance is two different characters. One is the news reporter at the beginning and the end, this character is not seen for a long time however, she is a formal white female news presenter. She is posh and formal, she is like the narrator of the performance. She starts by giving the news of what has happened. Then the acting comes along, then she finishes the performance with the rest of the report. My second character is the white teenage boy who tries to join the gang full of only black teenagers. He is not really accepted because of his colour so he is annoying as he tries to become close friends with the gang.

The other three girls are the black teenage boy gang members. One is the eldest which is 18 and he is like the leader of the gang. He is very stubborn and only thinks about money, he does not like any other race except his own race. The second eldest is 17, he is the more quitter one, he is speaks his mind when he has to. The youngest is 16 and he is the one who is the oldest younger brother so he tries to follow his older brothers footsteps. He however is more friendly, he tries to let the Muslim teenage boy to come into their gang. The 16-year-old Muslim boy is the youngest members old friend from before, he is afraid of what people will say about him, he tries to fit in to the gang by going against his religion and his beliefs.

We made the scene transitions quicker and much more effective by going straight into the scene or split sense so it would be easier to go from one scene to another.

For our next weeks lessons till our performance we need to go through our last scene because we just about touch on it this week, we only went through the scenes we have, we just cleared them up, added, changed or taken away some stuff from the scene.

Next week for all our lessons we need to all be in because we have not been giving commitment all of us. Next week Thursday we will be performing to our drama group so before our performance we need to clear up all the scenes and finish off our last scenes.

I personally believe that we have achieved our last weeks improvements for this week. We was all attending and making sure that we put our 100% commitment and focus. We also got a lot of our scenes all sorted out just our last scene left to clear up properly.

Week One: Devising

For our first week we got introduced into what we are going to be doing. We got put into groups of 4-5. In our group we had 4 girls and 1 boy. When we got into our groups we first of all researched some issues in the UK that affect teenagers. We looked up about gangs and religion. so we thought of our storyline, we based it on a 16-year-old Muslim which gets shot by three black boys in and estate where the black boys run the area. All three boys get arrested. We are showing in our play what has happened to the Muslim boy who got stabbed to death and how he got involved in with the wrong people.

We researched about gangs and religion, one website we found some information about gangs was on the Mirror Online, he information I got was 'Muslims in jail numbered only 3,681 in 1997 but last year there were 17,278.' Their proportion of the prison population in that time went from one in 16 to one in seven. A source said: “This is mainly because of the number of foreign nationals in UK jails but is also affected by religious conversion.'

Later on in the week we finally decided some of the character we wanted to make it stereotypical with the black teenage gang members, teenage Muslim boy and white teenager boy trying to get involved with the gang.

This week we got straight into acting, as soon as we had an idea we got up and started to act it out to see if we liked it or not. I believe that we did get a lot done this week. however, for our next week lessons we will all try to come in because people have been coming in late and not attending lessons. I will also try to attend every lesson. I believe that I need to give more ideas and opinions about the play. I believe I am currently trying my best to do contribute with the group with bringing up ideas and trying to make them work. We started to sort out our characters this week and the storyline.
