We have finalised to do our act on immigration and the impact on the family. It is not going to be just based on immigration however our throughline is immigration, so it will be the main topic throughout the play. We decided to do it on a family from Africa immigrating to the UK because of the war which is going on in their homeland. The reason why we picked an African family is because if you normally ask people who are immigrants the majority will automatically think Africans. If we also look at the top immigrants a majority is also from Africa. Our main aim is to educate our audience and teach them the struggle they have to go through living in a place where they are not wanted.
Our storyline is an African family who live in Africa, a family of a father, mother, and two daughters, the people in their homeland are getting killed because of religious views. They need to run away to save themselves. They move to the UK however the father gets shot and left behind to die. The children blame their mother for their fathers death and so this makes it difficult for the mother to keep control. We started to become more active and we started to think about how we are going to do our senses.
We decided to make out first scene about why they are leaving their home town, we decided for the reason to be because of war. Our second scene is them in the UK after 5 years, they are still trying to get used to the British culture, the father gets killed in the first scene. The third scene is the youngest daughter in school getting bullied. The fourth scene is back in the house on the dinner table with the mother talking to the children about their future. The last two scenes are the mother trying to get a job and the last scene is the eldest daughter getting involved with prostitution for money.
Next lesson we will become more active. We will get up and do some acting. We will also give more ideas to how we should exactly do.
